^ I have to agree with the post above. I've seen cars come into the shop looking like the damn Exxon Valdez because no sealant was used on machined surfaces, such as timing chain covers, camshaft end cam caps, valve cover gaskets where they form a 180 degree arch, etc etc. Honestly, I would not risk it. My .02.

if you haven't ran the engine yet, the headgasket probably hasn't sealed yet solely to torque. it's probably safe to take it apart and apply the silicone for peace of mind. That's just my 2 cents on it. why risk anything when you don't have to (since you caught it). At worst you're looking at taking it apart again and a new gasket. It'll be worth it in the end, wouldn't you agree?

Not quite sure what ur trying to say here but it seems as though you are trying to pass me off as a ****** idiot. And my mechanical knowledge is not in question here. I'm not new to the shit. I'm just new to rebuilding my f20. And excuse me if I'm not a goddamn backwoods asshole who thinks bc he put an intake on a trans am, that I know how to build entire engines of all makes off the top of my head. I prefer to go step by step on the FSM. And I caught my own nmistake before more could happen, instead of trying to pretend all is well or pretending like I know best. I just know that I've never seen a car that needed the bond between the headgasket and block for a seal, so I did the humble thing and asked for advice. If I missed something else then ill **** up and engine and rebuild when it blows. Either way its my hard earned money. So thanks for trying to call me an idiot. I'm sure ur purfect, now if u don't mind promptly leaving this thead immediately. Have a great day mr perfect!

If you have already torqued the headbolts you cannot reuse the headgasket anymore. You need a new one.
So as long as it doesn't leak leave it as it is.

Yeah true... I guess the way it is now, I can either waste a $200 gasket for peace of mind, or I can run it and if it leaks then I will be out a $200 gasket and a couple hours of tear down.... so I guess ill see what happens. If it leaks oil then o well, I haven't lost much more

[QUOTE=bpaspi,Jan 16 2011, 03:03 AM] I didn't say I only put 4 engines together. I posted that I have build 4 S2000 engines.

I'm an automotive engineer and mechanic. I worked in the engine development
