This Lexus IS300 started gaining on me & I could tell he was pushing, so I went for it, but my engine temp was at 2 bars. After about 7000 rpm the fuel cut off and the engine sounded like it didn't like what I was doing. I'm assuming this is preset in the computer, but did I do any damage or is this just a safeguard?

PS-- I did a search & found a post about this but it was missing or something so I couldn't read it.

And back to the lexus-- at the next light my engine heated up. He wanted to roll so I went for it. We stayed pretty close until I got up to vtech, where I just kept going and it was like he was standing still. (I didn't do a hard launch b/c it wasn't worth it, so it took a while to get up there). I slammed on the breaks at 80 and he kept going, but gave me 2 honks knowing he was BURNED! haha what was he thinking...

There are a million posts about this. The car won't go into VTEC until it's warmed up, which is rougly around the time you get 3 bars. You didn't hurt anything. It's like the rev limiter at 9k. It tries to save you from hurting anything.

I have also killed and IS300 before, really easy. BTW, I always try to let things heat up pretty well (longer than just 3 bars) before attempting racing or hard driving.
