Default Fuel / Hesitation

Hi all, I have a problem with the S, and trying to identify what the problem is. when i gas it, the car hesitates and feels like fuel is not delivering (kinda feels like you are running on empty). and sometimes when i an crusing at a constant speed, it will choke and jerk. I am thinking that it might be the fuel pump, or the injectors? it starts fine, and it doenst happen all the time, but the last time i drove it, it was pretty rediculous. when i am on a hill, give it more throttle, and it just wouldnt go at all. just wondering if anybody have the same problem before and see if anybody know what the fix to that? I have tried searching, i just not sure what to search for, so if anybody have any idea, it would be much appreciated.
Thanks in Advance.

A map "wack", or a new map may help. And hot weather may cause it to bog down when the ECU pulls back the spark adavnce. Have you checked for any loose vacume lines and hose connections, or a dirty air cleaner, or maybe plugged or dirty injectors or PCV valve, loose or bad gas cap, or bad gas.

Thanks for the suggestion, it could not be loose gas cap or bad gas, because this is actaully an on-going issue. at the beginning stage, car feels like it bogs once a while, then until recently it gets worse and worse, it comes to a point that it is almost not drivable because you can feel that the car is not accerlating even you are putting pressure on the gas pedal, it almost felt like the fuel pump is not delivering fuel. i am not exactly sure thou, but it is not due to hot weather for sure, i am in seattle area, it is range between 40-60 degree, i will check the vacume lines and injectors, any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

thanks.

Iceman,

the motor was replaced 4 months ago, due to hydrolocking the motor, and i got a used motor with 45000 miles (it says on paper), a shop did the swap for me. it could very well be something electrical or loose connection, because it didnt do it before. i only have j's 60 rs and everything else was stock, had a CAI in there, but swap back to stock when swapping motor. Thanks for the input.

its possible its a bad ground. Check connections to ECU. Make sure there are no loose wires there. I assumed you are not getting a CEL, so that leads me to believe it is a loose connection somewhere. Also when you describe it are you putting your foot on the floor and the car still feels like it is straining? Did you check plugs? Are they the same as the ones you had hydrolocked in engine? Just trying to throw out some ideas.

no, these are brand new plugs, first thing it came to my mind would be bad plugs, but thats wouldnt be the case here, for some reason i had a feeling that its fuel pump is because it kinda feel like you are driving on empty tank, when you push the pedal in, and the car feels like its try to move, but no fuel is being delivered. but i am not very technical, so i might not even describing it correctly. i am not throwing any CEL as well. sometimes it happens a couple times during a 30 min commute, and the very last day i drove the car, it felt like it is about to stall every time when i gas it. it is very frustrating, Thank you for your input.

I have had the same issues for a while with my 03. Do you also have a rough idle...Like when you hit the gas while sitting still in neutrel and the car almost die and ten come back to a normal idle (even a couple low rough idles before trying to return to normal).

I did a lot research here by looking up "idle" "hesitation"...ETC and you should try doing the same...A lot of helpful and knowlegable people here!!

There can be a couple isues that could be causing your problem.

1.MAP sensor
2.IAC
3.O2 Sensors
4.Vaccum Lines
5.Coil Packs
6.Fouled Plugs
7. TPS Sensor

Mine was the IAC valve. Replaced it and all problems are gone, cars runs like new....Well for now, it's only been 2 days and no issues or CEL.

Thanks alot Mat, car does bog down to 500rpm from time to time, and come back up. if you guys dont believe its the fuel pump, i would take it in to the shop and have them replace those sensor, because it is still under warranty. so it doesnt like like the fuel pump at all? fuel pump would either completely working or completely dead right? it wouldnt mal-function for a split of a second and pumping fuel again?

Again, thanks for all the input.

I really do not think that it's the fuel pump, but I could be wrong. From all the search that I have done and the symptoms you have, there is a good chance it's one I listed.

Try searching "Fuel Pump" and read what issues other owners are having and what there symptoms were. But I don't think there are many issues with the S fuel pump.
