Gapping Denso Plugs?
Wassup everyone! I recently purchased a set of Denso Iridium IK22 spark plugs. The company I bought them from told me not to gap them at all. They come pre-gapped. Yet, a few members I know of told me that they had to gap them themselves. Any information on this? I can't wait to slap those bad boys in, but I have the gapping dilemma. Thanks!
I talked with Denso before I installed mine and they recommended going with Honda specs (.040 in. or 1.0-1.1 mm).
They work fine with that gap and I think the factory gap is not quite enough.

The Denso application guidebook states all gaps should be made to conform to manufacturers' specs, and also gives the gaps for different cars and Denso plugs. Most of the time this is different from out of box gap.
The car starts much better and idles better after gapping.
Bend the curved electrode to gap. Use the round tool that has wires to gauge thicknesses. Craftsman makes one or find them at local car parts place. Probably less than 5 bucks.

Hey-
Be careful with the Denso plugs. I've seen the electrodes break off and ruin the cumbustion chamber.
The OEM plugs should be fine. If you are going FI use HKS Iridiums or APEXi Iridiums- both use a different design from the Denso branded ones and haven't had those problems. I've also used the NGKs with good success.
But... the OEM plugs should be fine for a NA car.

I tried to regap them but it's not easy and you can bend or break the center electrode. I left them as they came since the gap is slightly smaller than the one recommended by Honda and the plug design calls for a smaller gap (acording to Denso). So far I haven't had any problems.

I tried the Denso plugs out of the box and felt it was maybe slower to wind up.. hard to tell without a good measurement. I went back later and gapped them to .040 (measureably larger than out of box) and felt I got a noticible improvement.
My observations are totally subjective, but I recommend using the larger gap.
