Default Garage Floor Coatings

Morning All,

Well, after changing my tranny fluid yesterday I proceeded to pour the dirty oil all over the floor of my buddy's garage. So in the past 2 months I've spilled engine oil, tranny fluid, and next month I'm hoping to leave a nice differential stain in there as well

What sort of non-porous floor coatings do you folks use to avoid stains, and enable easier cleanup in your garages? Years ago at my folks' house I used some garage paint and it worked well for about 6 months until road salt touched it over the wintertime. My buddy wouldn't mind finding something economical and effective to use in his garage since we plan to continue maintaining our cars in there, and also intend to fix up a couple of bikes this winter in there.

I used the rust-oleum garage epoxy with really good results.

The secret is in the prep. You need to clean the hell out of the floor, scrape up anything that is loose (this includes loose or dusty concrete), clean it witha power sprayer and then etch it (the etching compund comes with the paint).

The application of the paint is easy if you have prepped correctly.

Here's another section of the garage forum that's general in nature instead of being focused on floors.

brake cleaner works surprisingly well on freshly spilled oil even on porous concrete floors

Why did not you put something like news paper , cardboard box, old bath towel under it when you do the fluid change?? this help eliminate the spill on the floor, and yet you can throw these thing away. his is what I did. or

A little newspaper is not going to contain 4 liters of oil when you drop the catch pan

Also, oil has a habit of soaking through almost anything porous (ie. newspaper, etc) We just need to stop being messy fools. Or we could just get our own reality TV show, either one.

That garage forum sounds cool! I'll have to check it out when I'm not so busy here at work.

Crap, I just realized what I did when I posted this.

Because of the addition of the word S2000 to the UTH forum title a little while back, I glanced and thought I was in S2000 Talk.

Sorry for posting in the wrong place.

Yes that has screwed me up several times as well. I wish they'd take S2000 off of both of them.
