Gas Question
I have searched...I found polls, I found race gas...but no my question.
Has anyone done any controlled gas tests?
A while a go Car and Driver did. Only a few highly-strung cars, such as an M3, showed any difference. All modern cars have knock sensors, O2 sensors, etc. can adjust timing and mixture based on actual runtime parameters. Many are tuned so that they really don't need the extra octane.
But some do. I think the S2000 is one of them. A couple years ago I tired a tank of SUNOCO 103...err, Ultra 94. It is subjective, but I thought it was smoother before I was out of the station. Admittedly I exited the station with a 9000 rpm shift. But, it even seemed to idle better.
Now with 11:1 compression, the S2000 is a prime candidate for better gas. My Supra TT doesn't have any perceptible difference in street driving with the better gas. At WOT, it seems a little stronger. Purely subjective...worth nothing.
I see a lot of dyno runs. Everyone stipulates temperature, etc. But, not specifying the gas.
Does anyone have any meaningful results?
Thanks,
David
