Default Gas smell in interior

Spoiler

OK friends, need some help. I have an '06 with about 180k miles. Always garaged.

Just in the last couple of weeks, when I go out to the garage to drive it, there is a distinct and relatively strong gasoline smell in the interior. Not overly, shockingly strong, but quite obvious. If it's driven into the garage with the top up and left buttoned up, it's very obvious.

Since it's in the interior, I assume this is something around the gas tank, thinking that is really the only part of the fuel system that is shared with the interior. But I might be wrong. Anyway, I need help.

Where do I start? What might this be? What is most likely, and if it's not that, what else do I check?

Thank you in advance!

Not sure why the "Spoiler alert". Hit the + icon by accident I'm guessing.

Overfilling the fuel tank is a prime way to cause this. When the gas station pump clicks just stop fueling. If you've been frequently overfilling this may go away after you stop. Bad fuel tank cap can cause this too. 2006 car should have a "Check fuel cap" warning on the dashboard. A $7 fuel cap gasket from any Honda dealer ain't exactly firing the parts cannon with high dollar parts so try it. There are also "filler neck" issues noted on other threads. Look at them.

Thank you. Oregon has a law against top ups, and the attendants won't let you do that, so I don't. But the gas cap is a good idea. Why would that cause smells in the interior though?

Nope, no codes. Just the odor of gas. Weird. Fuel pump gasket? Some other leak? Any ideas where to start?

I've had this in my 04 a few times over the years. I think its a fuel cap/venting issue. When I've had this, I just removed the fuel cap at home for 30-60 min, then reinstalled. Odor went away.

Can only hope you are not in my shoes.

Rodents chewed through the fuel feed line of my 2006 AP2. Amazingly, she still ran without issue, but yes, the fuel smell was incredibly strong. Shortly after shutdown the fuel puddle on the driveway was 3 feet in diameter. Feel somewhat lucky that it didn't catch fire.
