Did you order the OEM parts from Ricks as well when you ordered your gears? are they necessary?

I did order the oem parts and would recommend them installed, as the manual suggests. I just went with Ramjet's recommendations and Dave there didn't seem inclined to replace the bearings and such.

What would be a good break-in oil? It seems like a high viscosity oil (Redline, Amsoil, etc.) would be best for 1K miles, then change it.
