Default Going to synthetic at 25k

I have 43 000 KM on my car, around 25 000k MILES. It's a MY00. All the previous oil changes have been done at Honda without synthetic oil.

Would it be ok to switch now? My dad told me to stay with dino oil because it's too late.

1. If I switch, what type of synthetic is recommended.

2. If I stay with regular oil, what type is recommended.

Since you drive only 5000 miles a year and your car is out of waranty, you could stay with conventional oil and do oil change every 5000 miles or 6 months, whichever is first. If you like to change to synthetic oil, you can extend the interval to 1 year or 5000 miles, whichever is first.

Penzoil Platinum is the most bang for the buck synthetic oil
Havoline GF4 is best conventional oil for the money

Eilther oil can be found at any autopart store, or at Walmart. Be sure to use Honda PCX oil filter.

Nothing wrong at all with switching to synthetic now, your engine is still practically new! My favorite synthetic is Castrol Syntec and my favorite conventional is Chevron Supreme. If you stick with conventional though, use Mobil Drive Clean since thats what the dealership has been using. I go by the school of thought saying sticking to one brand of oil for the entire life of an engine leads to better protection and wear patterns.

so w/ synthetic, you don't need to change your oil every 3 months or 3kmiles? my 01 tahoe and my02 s2k are on synthetic and i have been following that schedule.. so your saying i can go a full year between oil changes? doesn't the oil/oil filter get dirty and need to be changed? i've heard this about synthetic b4, but never thought much of it.

the 3 month 3000 miles mantra is so 60's and 70's. today's oils protect so much better. 3000 mile oil changes are wasteful and unecessary. ESPECIALLY with a synthetic.

If your driving condition is not "severe" as defined in Honda manual, then you do not need to change conventional oil for 7.5k miles or 1 year whichever is first. With Synthetic oil and if my car is out of warranty, I would have oil change interval of 12k miles or one year.
My other cars are LS400 and E430, both use the one year-12k miles oil change interval with synthetic oil.
My S is my daily car, but I do not drive it on weekend so that it only driven about 6k-7k miles a year, it has oil changed at the time limit, 6 months for convention oil or 1 year with synthetic oil.

FWIW I go 5000 between changes with conventional, and about 10,000 on synthetic.

this is good to hear.. especially coming from Wisconsin who seems to run his car prtty hard (i don't mean this in a negative way though) mine is daily, but i put about 80 miles a day.. i probably wouldn't go the full year but maybe twice a year now and constantly check the level..
thanks for the info guys.. it'll help save some cash.. hopefully for my first mod!!
