Got my 4.77 gears installed today
i just got my car back from installing hardtopguy's 4.77s and to tell you the truth all i feel is the throttle being a little smoother nothing else, the place i took the car too told me he had to install them twice cuz the first time they made too much noise and when he took them down the first time he told me to feel them with my finger and they didn't feel smooth at all he had to grind them down a bit to make them smoother, when i say grind them i mean just barly touching them on top just to make them smooth, but today after the install we went for a ride and i didn't feel the defference, do you think he did anything wrong in the install that could be affecting the way gears are suppose to make the car pull a little harder? i really feel like i threw my money away.. BTW the temp here in New Jersey is 97 today can that be the problem?
The easiest way to tell is to see if your RPM is different than it used to be while going the same speed. Go 70MPH and see if your RPM is the same as it was before the install, it should be higher.
If you can't make a complete sentence good luck verifying your new gear install.
That sucks that it didn't pull hella hard after you popped some mad VTAK yo!
Maybe an RSX is the car for you, no messing with these overly complicated differential gear installs.

Dang that sucks, you need to do some more research and check the rpms like they stated above. This is the first post I have read where someone said they do absolutely nothing. People have stated they weren't blown away like they expected but they could feel a little improvement.
Sounds to me like you got ripped. How much did the install cost? You should of had HTG do it, so you know its done right.
People say a crappy install can make the difference. Hope they didn't jack anything else up.

Double check your rpms at different speeds. with 4.77's you should be at 5k rpm at 80mph. LIke kenpo said it shouldn't be a mind blowing difference but it is noticable. The heat could be a factor but you;d have to be heatsoaked like a mofo to not be able to feel the gears at all.

Bad installation.
Period.
What oil is in the diff now?
Do you know?
Does the diff get hot (as in way too hot to touch and an oily smell)?
The difference between oem and 4.77's should be noticable.
