Default Got an odd shifting problem

I just picked up a used 2002 S2k on Sunday, and just problem just pops out of no where. I haven't really notice it before. I believe a reason for this could be that the tranny was fully warmed up yet.

But here is the problem. upshifting is fine and realatively smooth, but when I slow down and try to downshift into 2nd or 1st, the shifter whould not budge to get in gear. It is almost impossible to get it in. I had to release the clutch and press on it again several time before I manage to get it in. Also, from a stop (at a red light) I find it relatively hard to engage in 1st, but not as bad as downshifting into 1st or 2nd. So what do you guys think the problem can be?

I am planning to change my oil, tranny fluid, bleed the clutch and do the clutch pedal adjustment this weekend. Do you think that would help or sold the problem?

Thanks.

same problem in my eagle talon TSi definitely a synchro problem in my car. A list of mods and milage would be helpful. could possible be something out of allignment which I doubt or a fried synchro which would be more evident when first appearing on the downshift before you start noticing on the upshift.....

The car have 37k miles and is stock, hopefully it is not within the tranny itself, or else that would be a bitch for me.

If the car wasn't fully warmed up then that could be why you were noticing 1st and 2nd were hard to downshift into. However, I don't know why you'd just now notice this as they would always be hard to downshift into whenever the car is cold.

If you're trying to say that the shifting feels normal after the car has been driven for about 10 minutes then this sounds like something that can be helped with newer transmission fluid. If you're trying to say that the problem is always there regardless of how long the car has been running then it sounds like it could be a clutch bleed/adjustment issue.

I generally don't downshift into 1st but it can be a bit stiff, though not as stiff as yours sounds like it is. there should really be no problems downshifting from 3rd to 2nd. Is the problem still there if you revmatch nearly perfectly, if it is, then I would suspect a clutch issue?, if it improves dramatically when you revmatch then I'd suspect the synchros. There is always the possibility that someone put the completely wrong fliud in the tranny as well, I'd start with that since it's cheapest.

Try to rev match, if it gets significantly easier its probably a synchro also try changing out the MTF maybe?

i agree. Stock S2000 seem to have a lot of syncro and gear problems from what I've been reading here.

I've had problems with my gears at 14000 miles and had it rebuilt by ase certified tech.

So I had the car fully warmed up today before taking her out for a spin to check on the tranny. For the first ~ 10 mins, it is again impossibly to downshift into 2nd or 1st at speed above 10 mph. But after that intial 10 minutes of driving, I was able to downshift into 1st and 2nd fine. So I am extremely happy about that.

Now here another question, I assumed that the s2k have a tranny oil temp. sensor that locked out 1st and 2nd above a certain mph? Because like I said, it is impossible to downshift into 1st and 2nd, it doesn't grind or anything, just impossile to even move it. so is there a way to disable this, because it is not fun to down shift into 3rd when you are making a turn at 10mph.
