Default the great debate

i purchased a homemade custom exhaust on here from a fellow member.

it has the stock exhaust pipe up until the Y and then was made into a single exhaust using a muffler with 4 inch tip. I would say its a close replica of the Megan Racing single exhaust.

I've had it on for 4 days but only drove about 10 miles locally until today..

Driving on the parkway my silencer blew out and WOW this thing is loud on the parkway with no silencer.

So the debate is.

Does adding a screw in type exhaust silencer cause you to decrease in power?

I really didn't put enough miles on the car with the silencer so i'm not sure on feel, but i do know without the silencer it seems a bit lame.

Would it be possible that i don't have enough back pressure?

Sorry for the novel.

-Nick.

yeah i will most likely be adding the silencer.

do you think the silencer would make that much of a difference in back pressure?

also, what are you guys using the keep the silencer in? i had a nut and bolt and it came loose!

If you're going to use a silencer, you might as well put the stock exhaust back on. The car will sound and most likely breathes better.

I wouldn't say reduce hp unless it will be dynoed and proven. All exhausts differ so for an example, check this video out on the Skunk 2. Exact same hp with silencers and without. Something to think about

would a resonator be less resrictive?

i'm pretty sure with no silencer the car is very sluggish.

guaranteed that a silencer will reduce flow capability, thereby decreasing power.
