I usuall hold mine open about 18 inches (half a meter). Always have. You can adjust the rubber bumpers at the front corners of the hood opening on the radiator top bar a quarter turn or so to help but too much will leave the hood rattling.

I don't see a problem with having to drop it. It's lighter than a steel hood so needs more distance to have the same kinetic energy...

Also you may need to adjust the heighth of your hood latch. You can do this very easily. There are 3 10mm bolts that you barely loosen. In your case try raising it a little first. See if that helps. It should. Hope that helps.

Never push down on the hood!!!! Every time I see someone do this I get chills.

Did you check the manual? No pushing on the hood. It is made to be as thin and lightweight as possible, and can be easily damaged.

The proper procedure is to hold it approx. 1-1.5 feet above the latch and let it drop. If it does not latch from that height, you need to make an adjustment in either the rubber stoppers or the lower part of the latch (with 3-10mm bolts).

Please do not push down on your hood.
