Default Head Removal Help Needed!

Hey guys... I'm pulling my head this weekend so I can swap it with my newly ported and built Alaniz head. I removed the Valve cover and caps that hold the cams in... I then lifted the cams out. I need to remove the part the cams sit in and the rocker arm assembly as illustrated in the photo below. Does anyone have any idea how to do this? I have all the bolts taken out that hold it down and the Honda manual gives no hint on a special way to take it out. I need to remove it so I can take out the head bolts and replace the head gasket. Any help in this area you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If you mean that you've removed all the bolts and still can't get the journals off...tap them with a block of wood or wood dowl. You can even use a hammer against the wood...but it should not take too much force. Then you can rock them back and forth till they come free.

yeah all the bolts are out. and by all of them, I mean all the #31 bolts and # 18 & 19 bolts if you look at the diagram above. Each cap has 3 # 31 bolts and then either #18 or 19 bolt... so a total of 4 per cap or 20 for the whole head. once those are out and the caps and cams are removed there should be nothing holding the journals in except the dowels (#26 in the photo) am I correct?

They are a snug machine fit.

did you undo the ground and bolts on the back of the head?

the intake plenum does weigh quite a bit too. there are the dowels that hold the head together, can you move them up?

Make sure you didn't overlook the two allen screws in the front of the head.

I was in the same position as you a month ago.. As safely as you can, find a way to pry a section at a time, just a lil.. The key is finding the right position and angle.. I originally thought it was welded on there, lol it was that tight.. good luck bro

^^ I agree. I had to "pry" a little to get mine to come off. Its a very very tight fit. I did it alone in my apartment driveway though so it can be done. It will have to come up and forward at the same time and its not light.

The front end will be tight, since the silicone sealer around the chaincase is holding it.
