Headgasket choice

Default Headgasket choice

I did some searching and from what iv read most people seem to suggest the oem one as the best gasket. Im just looking for some advice as to what my best option is. Story is i bought the car a few months ago. Car has a built motor with about 9k miles on it, headgasket im pretty sure is cometic. A few days after i bought it i checked the coolant reservoir and notices it was empty. When i flushed it out there was a decent amount of milky sludge at the bottom. I took the rad cap off and when i poured a little water in some more milky fluid came to the top. I overfilled the rad to make the milk overflow out and filled the reservoir up with fresh distilled water. Since then iv been keeping my eye on it and it seems to be sucking a little coolant in and pushing a little milkyness back into the reservoir. Its not alot so im not in an urgent rush to change it. I flush it out like once every 2 weeks and just a little milkyness is inside. I also changed the oil and no coolant was inside. However i just got a supercharger kit and before i install it i want to change the gasket. Only looking for around 350-375 whp. So would the general consensus be an OEM gaskter? Sorry for being long but i like be detailed as well.

You arent worried about a ''little'' milky sludge in your cap and rad? I would... thats only what you see in your rad... god knows whats inside... if I were you Id stop driving the car till I change it and make sure everything is ok

The milkyness is oil pushing in. It all rises to the top and usually eventually pushes into the reservoir tank. It shouldnt really be anywhere else in the motor. As long as coolant wasnt in the oil im not too worried. Temperatures stay just fine

Ehh maybe your right. I was gonna wait till the end of the month cause i have some time off but maybe ill just do it next week and wont drive it much this week.

Well i ordered an oem gasktet from hondapartsnow.com along with a header gasket and some coolant. I was looking that "how-to" website and the only thing that threw me off was it says the headbolts are only torqued to 22 ft/lbs? Is that true? I used to torque my eclipse's headstuds to almost 90 ft/lbs. Heres the site i was looking at. http://garageninja.com/honda-s2000-f...-head-removal/ . Anyone have any good tips that i would need to look for when i do the gasket? Im very new to hondas. Thanks for the help.

8. Tighten the cylinder head bolts in sequence to 29 N-m (3.0 kgf.m, 22 lbf.ft).
Use a beam-type torque wrench. When using a preset-type torque wrench,
be sure to tighten slowly and do not overtighten. If a bolt makes any noise
while you are torquing it, loosen the bolt and retighten it. See image.

9. Tighten all cylinder head bolts in two steps (90° per step). If you are using
a new cylinder head bolt, tighten the bolt an extra 90°. See image.

Ohh i see. So i tighten them to 22 ft/lbs. THEN i tighten then an additional 180 degree in the 2 steps. Any difference if there arp studs instead?
