Default Heavy Duty Trunk Springs

Hey everyone,

I may be doing a trunk swap here soon with another local member. His trunk has a 00-03 OEM spoiler on it, mine doesn't and we will be trading. He will be keeping his heavier trunk springs as he's expecting a new wing soon.

So, I'll be sticking with the original springs designed for a trunk without a spoiler. Those of you who have done swaps, I'd like to hear if you think the heavier springs are absolutely necessary or not?

I also tried asking my local (Canadian) Honda parts counter if they could get me a set of heavier springs. The parts guy had no clue on where to look to even find a part number for this. Anyone know what the part number is for the heavier trunk springs? These springs are usually shipped as part of the OEM trunk spoiler kit found in the accessories catalog. Unfortunately, it doesn't list individual parts. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Chris.

You can get the springs seperately. They are listed as a replacement part with accesories. I don't have the # here, But I've looked them up before.

Chris, as you know, I have the '04 wing and I have put on the smaller lip on Danny's car. Neither one of us used the heavy duty springs. They are not necessary. The heavy duty springs will still not lift the trunk lid up anyway. All you want them to do is to "pop" the trunk high enough to unlatch it and the stock springs do this more than adequately. You must also realize that once the trunk lid is fully open, the stock springs is also more than adequate to hold the lid in that position.
I don't know why Honda included these things in the kit. If this were a car where the trunk sprung fully open on its own, then I might see it, but on our car, this doesn't happen.
If you feel you must have the heavy duty springs, I'll give you mine gratis. They're just sitting is a box.

The swap will probably happen tomorrow. I'll have to compare our two trunks before and after to see what I think. I may just take you up on that offer.

Boy Dave, I'm gonna owe you big here soon!

You got first dibs, big fella. (Not like anyone's wanted them in the last couple of years anyway.)
I'm off till Tuesday. PM me if you wanna meet again for the hand over.
ps. Putting those things on can be a dangerous thing. You'll need some large channel lock pliars or the "special" Honda tool.
