Default Help!

Hi guys I have a 00 ap1 s2000, car have 165k miles I was on a mountain run today and when I was shifting 3-4 I’m not sure what happened, the car reved pass 9k and engine light came on, heard some metal cracking noise, I thought it was the transmission, went to 1st and the car won’t go past 2k rpm and I immediately stop at the side after that car won’t start again, it would crank but engine won’t start. I scanned it with my obd ii scanner and got p1366 that’s the only code I got, just hoping right now nothing wrong with the engine or anything falling into the piston that can cost me a new engine lol. Pls help! Thx

Sounds like you money shifted the car. Went 3-2 instead of 3-4 and possibly blew up your valvetrain.

Pull off the valve cover and inspect the valvetrain, particularly the valves and retainers.

Sounds like you may have floated some valves or broke some retainers, or both. Remove valve cover and inspect.

Good luck!

Do not try to start the car anymore until you have pulled the valve cover to inspect for damage.

Bent exhaust valves, almost guaranteed.

Simple compression test will prove it.

You need to actually remove the cams before you can inspect the valves. Follow this thread to step 3c. Keep track of the order and orientation of the cam holders (see red circles below and note the arrow pointing to front). Get a light in there and look closely at each valve, keepers/retainers and spring. When re-installing torque to spec AND in the right sequence.

If you don't feel comfortable doing this, take it in to a shop.

Could be the light but your 3rd intake valve looks scored (yellow circle).

Pull the spark plugs, & as Billman said, run compression test on each cylinder. Compression test uses only the starter motor to rotate the cylinders.
