Help. Can't find how to PULL CEL code.

Why do people reset the CEL when they can't progress any further to resolve the issue?
That CEL is trying to tell you something. Leave it alone till you figure out what it's trying to tell you. Resetting the light does NOT make the problem go away and finding out what the problem is ASAP may be key to preventing the situation getting worse. This whole business of "waiting for the CEL to come back again" may prove to be a very stupid move. The next time it comes on, may be the time it BLINKS. NOT a good idea.
The only time that you might simply reset without further diagnostics is if you know for a fact that you left the gas cap loose or that you purposely disconnected a wiring harness and forgot to plug it back in.

You can buy a code reader for 100 bucks or less. Its a good thing to have!
But you can buy a million paper clips for 100 bucks.

These people are a mechanics wet dream.

A million paper clips, that's pretty funny

Amazing.

Tell you what, find the last thread on here where the guy "cleared his code" without finding out what it was, and the next time it came on, it was blinking and now he's looking to have some major engine work done when he could have had it solved for much cheaper.

If you get a CEL, and just clear the code without finding out what it is and solving the problem, then you're own ignorance will be your undoing. No one here can help you.

We really shouldn't complain. I mean, where else are all the "part outs" on the For Sale forum going to come from if we don't have these guys blowing up their engine's every so often?

100%

However a normal (non-OEM Honda) scan tool cannot usually retrieve ABS, SRS, EPS DTC's. The jumper "blinky" trick can recover these DTC's before clearing them without a trip to the dealer. I have an OBDII scanner and have still had to use the Jumper trick for SRS DTC's before.

EDIT: I agree people really should never clear a DTC without knowing what it is.

werd....never just clear the code. I have a scanner tool for anyone in the bay area if they need a code pulled. just keep that in mind for future notice if needed.

I know.

On the other hand, are you all saying that if it comes on once, it won't ever come on again for the same problem (unless it's so serious that it starts blinking instead of just lighting up)? Or are all S2ks so unreliable that a lot of people on the boards have CELs?

The CEL on my Prelude rarely comes on, and whenever it does, it was because of the ATTS tripping out.

Just to be sure when doing a jumper, it is definitely pin 4 to pin 9.

Blink codes are limited, but sometimes very helpful.

Unless you clear it first

That is an excellent question, especially considering the trouble some MY 06 owners are having with Extended C.A.N. I don't know the answer for sure, but I have feeling it will. I think OBDII is layered atop OBDI in USDM cars. I think the "Blinky" codes are all at the OBDI layer level, as well as HVAC self diagnostic. In most cases the "blinky" are not as informative as actually using a OBDII code reader.
In another thread Nimbus stated that pulling the no. 25 cabin "backup" fuse for 60 sec. will no longer reset the ECU. Also the MY 06 ECU does not like to be disconnected for at least 15 min after engine is stopped. I have also read the MY 06 ECU controls alot of stuff (not just VSA) that the old ECU's did not. I wonder if the HVAC self diagnostic is gone?
So I really have no idea, just my best guess. I would really like to know also.

Nice, type SH. I think the "blinky" trick works on ATTS as well. It might be a separate bus (different connector) on the passenger side. Maybe only 2 PIN connector. I can't remember the 2 PIN might only be for clearing the light.
