Default Help With Engine!

Hey guys, if you remember i had many conversations with a problem wiht my car that was the same problem as NorthCyprus's problem but i just realized recently that the problem seems to be that vtec doesn't always engage. It seems as if it engages one a week. I mean you can't hear it from noise but from the feel of the car thats hwo it seems. What do you guys think the problem is?

ok sorry guys. The problem is the engine seems to have died down a bit. Its been like this for about a good month or so and now about a week ago the maint. req. light goes on when the car turns on and then it goes away. Recently i realized that one main reason to why the car doesn't seem as fast is when i hit vtec, it doesn't seem to engage at all. The car feels as if it has a b16 now but w/out vtec. I dono how else to explain this problem.

Without VTEC, your car will not run well above 6,000 rpm. If VTEC does not engage, you should be throwing a cel. It would help if you provided us with a code.

You might want to hook up with owners in your area. I don't know what city you live in, but perhaps you can post on your local regional forum and ask if someone who has this kind of knowledge would hook up with you. Otherwise, you going to have to take it to a certified technician to pull the code. Your cel is on isn't it?

The maintenance required light is irrelevent to this issue. It's purely a mileage counter to remind you that you need service. In the next little while that light will be solid when you turn the car on. Look in the manual to see how to turn it off.

Did you change the type of oil in the last month or so? When you transition past the rpm where VTEC normally cuts in, are you at WOT? How long do you go between oil changes? And do you change the filter every time?
You could have a bad VTEC solenoid that doesn't quite trip a CEL or the VTEC solenoid oil filter screen is plugged.

What is the count now on "VTEC just doesn't feel as impressive as it used to, is mine still working" questions? Is it as high as the "where is the secret compartment" questions?

A simple dyno run will tell you if there is a problem with the car or it you have just gotten used to it.
