Help me identify this noise!
I noticed a strange noise coming from my AP2 S2000 on a cold start and was wondering if anyone might know what is causing it.
I haven’t been driving much since it’s winter, but yesterday, when I started the car after some time, I heard the noise. However, after running a few errands, the noise didn’t come back on subsequent starts.
Today, I let the car sit overnight and tested it again, and the noise returned on the first cold start.
Any ideas on what this could be? Appreciate any insights!

You sure it's not the starter? After a while they make a screechey kind of noise when you release the starter when cold. Everyone gets it after a while. It is harmless and you can leave it for years . After the starter is warm from driving it won't do it. Most people ignore it and relubricate or replace the starter once they get tired of it. Mine has been doing it for 10 years or so but only in cool weather and only once.

Every time it gets cold, these posts appear from people that haven't driven an S in cold weather before.
Embarrassing, but normal. Especially if grease in starter isn't pristine. Screech cokes from starter being slow to release and disengage from flywheel.

Harmless, though but irritating. Remedy is the same either way. Remove starter; disassemble, clean and regrease; or buy replacement starter. Reinstall starter. Don't break the knock sensor in the process.
