Help! My water temps are 100-degrees!
Guys, I just completed the install (had it done by my local tuning shop) of my AutoMeter water temp/oil pressure gauges and their work was superb...really first rate but I'm having a problem with the GREDDY 34mm radiator hose adapter that I chose to use. I'm hoping those of you who have chosen to install this neat little device might be able to help me. My water temp gauge doesn't go above 100-degrees during operation and the mechanic who did the install said the sensor is reading the temps just slightly above the path flow due to the construction of the GREDDY fitting.

Anyways, the mechanic told me the sensor was not sensitive enough because we used a temp gun and red-dotted it across both sides of the
GREDDY and it read 167 and 172
respectively but when he pointed it
at the GREDDY near the sender
unit, it read 99-degrees, exactly what was showing on the meter. What did we do wrong here? Any suggestions? My mechanic said I need to call AutoMeter to see if they have another sensor that would work better with the
GREDDY hose adapter.

That piece looks like anodized aluminum, and if your sensor isnt much past the surface, it will be a big heat sink. Wrap that sucker up with some insulation, is there alot of air flow around it?
I'll take a pic and post it later today but my set-up looks similar to this pic:

When he pointed the heat sensor at the unit, it showed 99 degrees but on the hoses themselves, about three inches to either side, it read normal...'bout 167-172 degrees.

Honda designs their car (as per my Brother who is an engineer at the Marysville Ohio Plant) to run below 100 degrees celcius, therefore I would lean towards some other problem... My motor doesn't go above 80 degrees celcius on a hot day sitting still.
Highway operating temps are around 70 degrees celcius.
