Angry HELP- Need new Clutch and Trans

Just was told by Honda dealership that I need new clutch and transmission. Took the car in for regular service ('00 berlina 83K mi). I explained that every once in a while the clutch was making whining noise when engaged and high rpm shifting from 2nd to 3rd occasionally grinds.

They stated it will cost $6888 for new parts and service. I laughed in their face and immediately put in a claim to corporate Honda. Has anyone experienced anything like this? I have looked on Ebay and seem used trans for $800- $2000. Is it possible Honda really wants over $5k for a freaking trans?

What should I do? Thoughts

list price on the trans is 4300 bucks.

list on a new oem clutch is about 800.

Figure 700 labor.

with tax, 6299.

they are not far off, even if they are on the high side.

Not to go off topic but did they tell you what may have done in your trans??? I thought our trans was almost bullet proof.

Not sure if putting in an unknown used part from ebay is such a good idea either...
