Wink Help with the rear abs sensor

Hello all,

I need a hand with something. I'm swapping some axles and discovered that I seemed to rip the wire out of the rear abs sensor. I guess I could order a new one or something... But till then, here are my questions:

1. Exactly what does this little sensor do? I'm guessing it's for wheel speed, but I don't really know.

2. Can I live without it for a bit? Would my braking be that bad with only the right read tire "off" abs?

(Note: I have an AEM EMS and I'm not using the traction control.)

Help!

Thanks everyone,

-kM

The ABS sensor is held in just by a screw. Undo the screw and remove it from the collar/socket in the knuckle.

I have removed it. The problem is that the wire has been ripped from the sensor right at the base. There's almost no way I can re-attach it.

Do you know the specifics of this sensor? Like what it does exactly?

It senses the speed at which the little teeth in the cogged wheel goes around. This signal is used by the ABS computer to determine if the wheel is rotating at a different speed than the other wheels. It won't be just that wheel that the ABS won't work. The whole ABS system will not work. The brakes will default to non-ABS type brakes. Oh, you don't have traction control on your year of car anyway, so I don't think the EMS cares.

Fantastic! So if I leave that part off for a bit the only downside is that I will not have ABS for that time, right? Nothing else bad will happen? Except for the "whole not stopping very fast" thing?

And the AEM EMS has a traction control function for every year. You're thinking of my stock ECU that has been sitting in my tool box for ages

Yes, and your ABS light may be on all the time.

The AEM may have ABS control function, but it has to have a car that has traction control before it can control it. And your car doesn't have it. Or are you saying your AEM can use the ABS on an S2000 to simulate traction control?
