Default Help! So, I lost my only key for my '03 S2K

So, I've got an '03 S2k, and just recently lost my only key to the car.

I went to the dealership and provided ownership information and got a key cut, but they can't program it without the car physically. I've called a few dealers already and they said I need to tow the car in.

One dealership told me that they can provide some sort of 'code' that involves using the brakes and handbrakes in a certain combination, but it only works once, and if you mess up, that chance is gone.

My buddy has an '01 S2K, and that year's s2k doesn't have immoblizers, so I decided to swap ECUs with him to see if it'd work.

After I put his ECU into my car, the car tries to start, it actually cranks, as previously, with my regular ECU, pushing the engine start button doesnt do anything. Now the car continuously cranks, but doesn't turn over or starts. It seems like it's getting spark and ignition, but no fuel. I guess even with the other ECU, it doesn't control the fuel pump the same way.

Does anyone know any other way to get it working, I just need to start my car once, then I can drive it over to the dealership and have them program it, worst case scenario is to have it towed...

All US spec S2000's have an immobilizer. 01's are no different. Put your original PCM back in the car.

You need to tow your car to a dealer. Get 2 keys so when you loose one again you can still start the car.

He can get a brake code to use the non-immobilizer key he has to start the car.

Bring in a copy of your registration to prove you own the car, and ask the service manager to supply you with the brake code. Then get two keys cut and programmed.

Assuming he can put the brake code in correctly. It's not the easiest thing to do, or explain. Good luck finding a service manager or writer that even knows what a brake code is.

Towing is simple compared to the hassle you'll get getting the brake code and putting it in.

Dealer gave me the brake code, after trying two other dealers that had no idea what it was, or said it doesn't work for S2000's.

It was pretty easy to do, started up and drove to dealership.

Dealership plugged in their PCM OBD device thing, and said they couldn't program the key, saying that their computer can't communicate with my immoblizer, which is very odd.

I told them nothing was wrong previous to losing my key, I'll be trying a different dealership in a couple of days and see if they have different results.

I would also like to know what this brake code is..I was at my girlfriends house and rode with her and her parents to these sand dunes a few miles away. When we came back my keys were not in my pocket, and that was my only key also. Good thing I only pressed the lock button once b/c only one door locked. I just had a local locksmith come over to her house and he cut a key first, then called a dealership or something with the VIN and stuff and got some code and programed it into the key, then plugged some thing into the obdII port. Works fine! Then my luck I had a stupid autozone card on my keychain and someone the next day turned them into my autozone and gave them back to me. At least I got my key fob back. The original key will unlock the doors and stuff, but it will not start the car, only the new key will. Cost me about $200 though for the locksmith and key.

With brake code, your car will no need an electronic key in order to start up. Imo, dealer shouldn't give it out to anyone unless they brought the car to dealer. Sorry for headche op, but your easiest way is tow your car to dealer or maybe call locksmith like other member did and think about get a AAA in future or check if your insurance has free local towing serivce

Dude I feel for you. I went through this last year w/my POS 99 Explorer LOL! I had to have it towed, a couple keyes made/programmed, etc. The whole ordeal cost me a day off work and around 310.00 bucks including the tow. Sorry to hear but believe me I know where you're coming from. Anyways, it taught me a vaulable lesson and now I've got an extra set of keyes in a place they won't get lost in.
