My car was idling roughly, felt like it wasn't burning all the gas.

There are only 4000 miles on the Bosch Coppers....
So I pulled the plugs....

And THE PRONG OF PLUG #2 WAS MISSING!

I can only imagine it is in the combustion chamber.
Do I have any option besides opening up the entire engine block?

Was thinking of fiberoptic extraction... magnets... tweezers... any suggestions?

Thanks,

I would say it blew out the the exaust pipe. BTW I have bosch platinums 2's in mine with no problems.

question? what was wrong with oem NGK's that made you try Bosch?
There's a reason why Honda spec'd NGK's for the s2000

Im assuming if any damage occured it would have been done already. Get some new NGK OEM plugs install them and then see how it runs. hopefully debris already blew out the exhaust and your engine runs fine.

good luck

Thanks guys! I think it did blow out the exhaust.

I used a telescoping magnet to probe the chamber and there was just fine metallic dust. I think it's gone out the tailpipes.

On the upside, the engine feels fantastic with 25% more displacement... I guess I was driving an S1500, eh?

Maybe you will find the black burned piece of the spark plug in the catalic converter

Hopefully it did not position itself right between a valve and the cilinder at some point

Maybe a compression check would be good to do.

don't worry too much and place a new set of plugs in and drive the car easy for the next 100km or so. If there is any little scratch on the FRM lining then the rings will hopefully hone that for you.

We had 2 cases of this when a couple of us in Australia tried the Halo sparkplugs on our S. My friend's NA car was ok. His sparkplug tips obviously got blew out into the exhaust safely. Mine had a few scratches in the cylinder wall. These scratches were big enough to get worst with the piston moving up/down, resulting in piston slap.

The plug, on removal, was very loose as well. How tight was your sparkplugs?

Yes. That spark plug was loose (#2). #3 was a little lose as well.

I was actually thinking that the loosening plug may have been the cause of the tip breaking off.... vibration loosening the plug, it backs out a little, rubs the prong against the engine block / threads... sawing it off over time?

Oh well. Thanks for all the advice, guys! You should have seen my face when I pulled that plug... it was... hey... something's different about this plug... OH CRAP!

The problem with a loose plug is that heat is no longer transferred efficiently from the plug to the head. The plug gets very hot, usually causing preignition but maybe our knock sensor can prevent that. In any case, the poor prong, as you call it, probably just melted/vaporized away without freeing any big chunks.

If it runs well now, you're probably okay.

If it went out the exhaust, it wouldn't go farther than the cat.
