the actual honda PGM tester is a pricey piece. You're better off getting an OBD2 scan tool for much less.

If you want to purchase the PGM Tester its around $3000 bucks plus you have to pay for the software updates. Must be purchased through Honda. They also have an opt to lease them and they come with free software updates. There is already a new tester that we are using at work now. Its called the Honda HDS. Its made by Teradyne and is a Windows based program. Its a big touch screen interface that must be used with all 04 and up vehicles.

A coworker of mine sold his on eBay for $1000. The PGM-FI tester is a rebadged Vertronix Mastertech2. If you have some friends in a Honda or Acura service dept, You should be able to get the latest software version 321. As far as AHM is concerned, no new PGM software will be offered. I would probably look for a used Mastertech and load it with Honda software. As far as the new HDS is concerned, It has limited backwards compatibility, and AHM is constantly updating software. The PGM-FI software will show you more data than an obd2 scanner, as well as work on ABS, SRS, EPS, Transmission, and Immobilizers. A generic OBD2 program is also available that can work on all obd2 vehicles.
