How to adjust headlights?

Pull up to a wall and look for the two different patterns. Bring them together and you're good to go.

thats how they are supposed to be .. tight 2-3 inch higher. If you bought your car used, I assume the previous owner thought they were out of line, and adjusted them.. but he was WRONG!!

some of you are wrong and some of you don't know where the "step" comes from.

This is WRONG:



This is RIGHT:




As far as the "step", that is for the on-coming traffic like some of you have stated, you don't need to adjust them any more and if you notice the "cut-off" already has a slight curve to it, kind of like a sad smile, which aids in the glare so you don't blind on-coming traffic.

Here is a pic of the shield still mounted on the front portion of the projector, which some of you call it a "mask" and if you look closely at the center of it you will see the "step" on the shield:

^^ yes billman already posted what you said.

however, in your "right" picture, that alignment is just slightly "off". you should only see one notch, however, you can see a slight peak of a 2nd "notch" in your picture.

that's because the shield has a slight bend to it creating the sad smile i mentioned above. there's nothing that can be done about that unless you shave the shield flat but then you destroy the sharp cut-off and the color it creates

Absolutely not! The adjuster is fully accessible from inside the engine bay. Theres a cutout in each fender, and the star wheel adjuster is there. Use a long philips screwdriver to reach.

Can they be adjusted left and right instead of up and down. I seem to have a black spot in the center.

There is no "adjustment" for left/right, but I think you could use shims on the mounting bolts if you really had to.

It always seems like my lights are adjusted too high. When i'm driving at night, the beam "seems" to be higher than the rear view of the car in front. I've never been honked so hopefully this is just normal.
