Default how dangerous is it to work on the car on jack stn

My neighbour saw me working under the car the other day....car was on jack stands, and they said something to my wife about how dangerous it was. Once I got the car on the stands I gave it a good push or so around each wheel once on the stands to make sure it didn't shake at all and it was pretty solid. Getting it on and off the jack stands is another case, but at least I'm not under the car then

It's not dangerous if the jack stands are not undersized for the load they are carrying, and they are correctly positioned.

Working under a car supported only by a jack, that is a problem.

I hate working under cars on jackstands, it is safe but I just don't like it. I use 4 jackstands, make sure the weight of the vehicle is spread evenly and all jackstands are at equal heights. I then place something under the vehicle as extra insurance in case it ever did come down, either a spare wheel or a jack located under a part of the vehicle I'm working on.

A 4 post lift is no safer than jackstands. They are supporting the car from the same points. If the car falls from 6 feet or 2 feet you are still dead.

I've had all of my cars way up on four jack stands each doing all sorts of different things. Never had and issue or had a thought of being in danger. Just as long as it's supported in the correct places and evenly your good to go

Jack & jackstands are a poor mans lift.

100% safe when positioned right IMO.
(I've never seen 300kg - or lower - rated jackstands btw.. they can always hold much more)

The only downside is you being on your back on the floor.
