How do i home powdercoat

Default How do i home powdercoat

I have a black s and would like to take my second set of stock wheels and powdercoat them myself, i found an inexpensive powdercoater and am contemplating purchasing. I would like to have them black but maintain the original polished lip. How would i go about doing this, anyone have experience. I read through a lot of the threads and couldnt find anything on home powdercoating.

Just ask the guy that powder coats them to leave the lip silver/chrome. You're crazy to do it your self, as you have to bake it at above 300 degrees or higher(I think). Might be 400 degrees.

don't know too much about it but i do know that the stock rims are powdercoated clear and you have to blast that off first which might take awhile...

You don't want to powdercoat themm yourself...trust me....

Hey osu s2k I think i know what you were talking about. I saw an ad on hot rod tv for a home kit but it was for smaller pieces only because you used an old oven to bake the pieces once coated. Search around because some places do this very cheap. There is a guy in PA that does it for next to nothing but i don't have his addy handy.

There is a lamp you can buy to powdercoat instead of using an oven. It's for sale on ebay once in awhile. Takes forever though. If you are doing something small it's doable, but 4 rims will take forever. Plus you need a dust free environment.
