Im thinking of taking off that little closed vent where my cold air intake filter sits behind on the passenger side front bumper for cooler airflow. Or is this a bad idea? Or should I just poke some holes in it?

 

no i did it to mine and got a a/f screen kit to cover all three opening so so rocks and what not would not poke holes in my rad and cond.

 

I used a dremel and cut out the fake vents a long time ago. Bought a 3 grill stainless set from Coastal Metals to mount up in there and it has held up quite nicely for years now.

I too run a CAI and the fresh air now has a direct path from the side vent in the bumper in the fender liner and up to the opening you see in the corner of the engine bay.

well cut will show you more gains as you will maximize airflow to yout filter but even up and under the main idea is to draw cooler air and thus this is achieved.

But the cut out will give you more a ram air effect. Mine is still there as i think it looks poopy cut. Unless you do a nice job

 

I would just leave it alone, looks cleaner and you wont feel the diffrence anyway. If your going to cut it, you should cut the other side too. With both cut, it will help cool down the front brakes.

Correct, it does. Unless you use a brake ducting method, thi smod does not help cool the brakes.

I cut out both sides with the dremel tool and used a grinding stone bit to leave a nicely detailed edge - non of which is visible behind the grill piece but I know it looks great under there and detail is everything to me.

The Coastal Metals set is my preference because of the mounting hardware. Instead of black zip-ties to secure the grill set (other brands), Coastal uses L-brackets and stainless bolts in existing holes in the bumper. Secure and clean looking install.

I thought about this too when I installed mine. I thought that instead of cutting out the fake vent you could just cut a flap or hole in the black plastic between the filter and the "mouth" opening.

Instead got a new bumper

The new asm style bumper has a hole that directly feeds the cai.
