Thumbs down how hard pull cams?

well one of my exhaust valve adjustment screws broke the torque wrench I had was bad. So now I have a broken valve screw. Well the screw doesnt back out so I have to pull my exhaust cam.. Questions are what are the torque specs on the caps that hold the cam down and do I need to somehow lock the intake cam and timing chain or can I just pull the exhaust cam and put it back on? any help guys I would really appreciate it.

You really should buy the Helms shop manual before you go any further. To remove the cams, you have to loosen all of the valve adjusters on all valve. That remove the tension. Failure to follow the shop manual step cqan (and has) resulted in breaking the cam caps.

its gonna be a task any way you go. Just pull the caps then the cam and itwill be much easier on ya. Just make sure to retorque everything in order and to spec.

You will have to remove the cam and stands to do it. The rocker shaft is trapped between the stands. That means you have to remove it all just to swap that one $250 rocker out. Mechanical timing is easy, just set the crank at TDC and align all three pullys and you are good to go. There is a good picture that was posted a few days ago in another thread.

Also go buy a 1/4 torque wrench. Sounds like you needed one in the first place.

Stop what you are doing and get your car towed to a trusted mechanic or get a friend who knows what they are doing to come over. You shouldn't be doing what you are doing if a simple Helms manual is confusing you. I'm being serious and not an ass. You are going to mess something else up if you continue.

i know I called a mechanic that does nothing but honda and he is going to come over and do it for me... I wish I was more mechanically inclined sometimes.

HOLY CRAP, deja vu, that exact same thing happened to me last JULY! if you need some of those extra screws I may have it, pm me if you want them (just pay for shipping). I was using one of those click type torque wrenches and I was wondering y the hell it wasn't clicking, by that time it was too late. I ended up getting one of those torque wrenches that bend... been happy every since. Good luck Bro, like everyone says get the manual, but its not really that bad..

** one advise, taking the top section of the cam towers may seem like its cemented on there, find a way to leverage it up somewhere
