Default how much to rebuild an S2000?

My engine has an internal ticking sound.... so while that is being found, i thought maybe i would have the thing rebuit. It shouldn't really need this since it only has about 9k miles total and 1500-2000 race miles.

Anyone have a ballpark what it would cost to do rings, all the bearings, valve job, valve seals, valve springs, retainers, keepers, a timing chain, tensioners, etc. etc.

I have a feeling all of this will add up to more than it would cost me to get a new engine.?

thanks for your input.

A new engine is around $8000 I believe. Would end up costing the same with the labor involved. I'd just get a new block and sell the old one with the ticking for cheap.

Moving to the main UTH forum. I'd like to keep "Technical" for if you wanted to post about "how" to rebuild the engine.

I'd look into a new shortblock, and rebuilding your existing head. The FRM bores are very difficult to hone, and you have very little room to overbore.

The costs of a new cylinder head are astronomical.

ya...racing only here.

My bearings are apparently bad at the wrist pin or connecting rod (whatever) on the #1 cylnder... (that is the guess at this point).

Why not find a 04 motor used and sell you 01 for parts?

I saw a 2.2 liter on E-bay that you couls get for less than 4k.

I am getting some quotes to either swap mine out and sell mine to someone who wants to play with it.... also some quotes to totally rebuild mine...probably pretty costly..... and a quote to just get in and fix that one bearing (but who knows what might go next).

I was hoping to pick up an engine for under $2-3k...??? we'll see...

Buy another salvage, sell all the junk you don't want, presto cheap engine.
