I would try bending it before you remove it. But if you still want to remove it I beleive there are bolts holding it on from teh back. Might be a PITA to do.

No it is not. You can bend it out os the way to clear anything stock that it might come in contact with. If you still hear the sound, it is something else.

Good luck figuring out the issue, but if you are STILL wanting to remove them with relative ease (and do not care about end condition of the splash guards) get some tin snips and cut into them. You will be able to remove them with relative ease, feel free to pry at them, they will tear easily. Then after tearing them off you can use some pliers or vice grims to remove the screws that were holding them in.

Best of luck.

Sounds like the brake pad wear indicator.

brake pads are brand new.. so are the pads or the caliper.

the shield is rubbing against something and i can't figure how to stop, as you may hear the sound is annoying.

that sounds BAD.
the only rotating object near the shield is the rotor and the shield is too thin to cause a growl like that.

i say pull the wheel, caliper and rotor and look for fresh gouges on any components. you stated that it happen right after you reinstalled the diff. go back and double check your work. could you have left something loose? or maybe even a tool wedged under there somewhere. possibly a prybar or ratchet rubbing on the axle.
