Thumbs up How tight should our throttle cable be?

well I noticed a couple months back that my throttle cable had some slack in it, I was just wondering if I were to tighten it up would I have more precise throttle response?

If you take up some of the slack from your throttle cable, you will eliminate that dead zone when you first apply pressure to the accelerator.

It's an easy procedure to take the slack out, but you don't want to take out every bit of slack. Remember, steel cables expand and contract with temperature, and you don't want your engine idling higher because of a short throttle cable. If you do a search, you will find a DIY procedure.

You should find a few threads discussing removing the slack. I can't recall off the top of my head, but I want to say 1/4" of deflection is what you're after. Happy searching.

Cool. I did mine perfectly. (As tight as I could get it to go without idling higher, lucky me)
I had about 3/4'' slack before, and I definitely felt a difference in the response.

I did mine awhile back. There was a thread about a year ago with pictures and everything. I think s2000raj posted it.

I took the slack out of mine when I first got the car and it was definately more responsive.

Thank god for this thread, went out to check mine this evening, and low and behold it was VERY loose. I mean you could pull/push the cable up/down like an inch or more.
However after tightening to about 1/4" of slack I've got almost no room to adjust more later, some just not very much.

Is there a central spot for little tweaks like these somewhere I'm missing?
LOVE the response, and I actually think I've been missing WOT by a little, the car actually felt faster. Course you know how butt dyno's are...
