I understand WHAT vtec does and the whole larger lift after 4500 RPM's. Just wondering if there is more then one solenoid, as in 1 per cylinder? or does one large solenoid activate all 4 vtec rocker arms?

1 solenoid locks pins in the rockers which in turn rides the big cam.

 

4500RPM in which car?? the S2k Vtec is at 6000Rpm. my Accord V6 is at 3500RPM.

 

 

So 1 solenoid across all 4 rockers? Maybe I don't fully understand. I've watched several videos on it. None show more then one rocker. I'm looking for the whole system. All the cams, rockers, and the solenoid.

 

I solonoid controls the rocker-lock pins in all 8 VTEC rocker assys. 4 intake, 4 exhaust.

 

The high-cam lobe operates on a single rocker that sits between the low-cam rockers. It has a pin on either side that locks it to the low-cam rockers when the pins are extended. The pins are engaged with oil pressure, and the VTEC solenoid opens the valve that sends oil pressure to the pins to engage them.

 

The high-cam lobe also rides on a unique spring called a "lost motion" spring. It keeps the high-cam lobe in contact with the cam, when it is not being used by VTEC to open the valves.

isn't there 12 roller rockers per side. for each cylinder theres 2 outer ones connected to the valves and then theres the middle one too. i'll have to look at my manual.
