Default Hydro shield?

im planning on making a CAI to be placed in the very front. that means its most likely to get wet, do i really need a Hydro shield? its going to be going to my supercharger. my buddy told me not to worry but i dont think its a good idea to drive in the rain with out one.

Just curious, but why would you really need a CAI mated with a supercharger? Its not going to really benefit you any over the intake that comes with the supercharger kit.

If your going to run a CAI, a hydroshield is good and cheap insurance. Won't save you if you submerge it, but it's a good idea.

Rog-2, why is it a bad idea period?

You need to either shield the filter, plug the fender hole or do both if it runs to the same spot as other CAI's.

A cold air intake is always a good idea no mater what. A supercharger heats air in the process of compressing it, so starting out with as cold of air as possible is a great idea.

i have a hydro shield on my celica (mp62 roots supercharged) and in general rain it does work but in florida heavy rain with deep prolonged puddles it can't handle the water. i've locked up the car twice. thankfully, it hydrolocked the supercharger and never made it to the actual engine. i have a short ram for the car sitting next to me to replace the cai but so far i haven't gotten around to coverting the car to stock (celica gts), anyways it'd be a better idea to intercool, water/methanol injection, or aftercool the supercharger instead of the cold air intake, fearlessly splashing through puddles is great...

The improvements are iffy and the risk of hydrolock exponential.

I wonder how a Supercharger would like the long pipe of a CAI.
