Default I got a dilemma about the first oil change

ok we all know that we need to change the factory fill oil at 3,750 miles(severe) or 7k (normal), well i bought my s2k last february and i only have 900 on it right now....so shoulld i keep the oil until 3k miles or just change it at 6 months(ill most likely hit 6 months first). i already asked xviper and i appreciate his input, i just wanted to get everyones opinions and maybe some proof of which is the better route.

thanks in advance.

First, do you mean Feb 2002? or Feb 2003?

You could do three things:

1. nothing, leave the oil in and drive the car...

2. Replace the oil, but stay with non-synth.

3. Replace the oil with synthetic.

Personally, I think it really really doesn't matter much. I'd likely opt for #1, get another thousand or 1,500 miles on the car, then go immediately to Synth. No doubt you will hear from lots of folks telling you the (IMHO Urban folklore) about modern engines not breaking in properly with synthetic oils.

It is NOT folklore as Honda has stated that with the S2000, Do not switch to synthetic before 7,500 miles (at the earliest).

I do agree that some people make the oil thing way too big an issue. You will not find hidden hp, purrrrrrrrr like a kitten engine, superior whatever in synthetic oil. Just make sure you change at the recommended intervals depending your conditions.

If I were you, I'd drive the car, keep the original oil in there and switch out at 3,750 miles with dino oil and for peace of mind, perhaps, switch over to synthetic at 7,500+ miles.

I had the same issue and decided to wait until 3,000 miles ... this was at about 9 months. Make sure you check the oil level along the way, as I used about 1 1/2 - almost 2 qts.

How hard do you drive your car? This is probably the biggest factor concerning oil changes. You might consider just changing the filter at 3k and leaving the original oil in a bit longer.

dont change at 3k the first time... i went over 6 mos-
also wouldnt go synthetic until you are sure the engine is seated- i waited until 12k miles.
i dont drive my car much either, so i am glad to have synthetic in it now- dont have to worry so much about the longer time in between changes.

i drive my car in a easy and smooth way, i dont beat on the car at all. im not worried about using synthetic yet, i will use castrol gtx 10w-30 dino oil for now. anyways, i was just worried about the time vs mileage conflict. i am 100% sure i will hit 6 months first instead of 3,750 miles.

thanks for the responses.
