I have been using 5w30, is it harmful?
So.. basically here is the story. For some reason I misread the manual wrong and I have been using 5w30 synthetic motor oil instead of 10w30 for the past 15k miles. I live in seattle by the way to give you an idea of the climate (moderate).
Lately I have been noticing that I am burning oil.. could the 5w30 be contributing to it? Could I have done some damage to my motor using too low of a weight oil?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Using 5W-30 synthetic is an excellent oil for your vehicle. Many others will agree that it is actually better for your engine than 10W30. They both have the same viscosity range when the engine is hot, but 5W-30 has a lower viscosity than 10W-30 when the engine is cold. Lower viscosity at startup gives you oil pressure quicker at startup, which will reduce engine wear.
I use 0W-30 in my engine. There are quite a few of us that use either 0W- or 5W-30 synthetic oil in this vehicle. The UOAs (Used Oil Analyses) that I and others have taken confirm that it does a great job.
