That's what I sometimes say to people in these situations, too. Yeah it sucks you have an unexpected expense but if you were planning on building your motor anyway this gives you a legit reason to HAVE to upgrade. Definitely upgrade though, do the same when anything breaks as long as there isn't a ridiculous price difference.

Always go OEM if you can. There's more to replacing valves with aftermarket ones than just replacing the valves. Same is true for everything else on the car.

I was congratulating him on that he got to rev a 2002 upto 8500rpms...still no 9000. But he's getting there. Maybe the next rebuild you wont be afraid to make it to 9000. I know it's rough...kinda like putting in.........

IIRC, stock valves are about $17-23 per valve. The valves are cheap, it's the labor that'll kill ya (since you have to pull the head).

Edit: See if this will get you there:

$13 for Intake valves, $21 for exhaust.

Take if off yourself, send the head to Joe Alaniz, get it back, put it on, drive.

You can get stainless steel valves for cheaper, not much cheaper but add here and there and it helps to save.

As long as you give for example Alaniz the stock specs of the valves, they will drop right in.
