Mike, if I'm thinking what you're thinking, I believe there never was a bolt in that hole. This is the hole that you can bolt some kind of hook or bracket so that the engine can be lifted out of the car. You will find another similar hole at the other end of the engine. There is no bolt there either.
Comptech just used this as a secure point of attachment.

This is a gray area...Two VORTECH's I've worked on utilize this hole with a nice beefy bolt, the other's don't. For my money, I'd use the hole. I can post the exact/size length if you guys wanna add it. As far as your COMPTECH.....I'll let you know if my two customers use it or not. The length is critical, as you'll crack the head if it's too long...I know Comptech upgraded their bracketry at some point.

Those that you saw that did not use this bolt, I can only
Every Vortech I've seen has used a bolt in that location. I'm with Xviper, they should be using a bolt in that location.
The Comptech brackets I've seen use rubber isolators on the main SC plate. The brackets on the head and alternator are not isolated.

Agreed
Think the bolt can be added to the Comptech unit? One of my Comptech customers hit a pothole and snapped that bracket clean in half. Wonder if that bolt would have helped...

At the top of page 4, it would appear as though the kit comes with that big bolt and the bracket has a hole for the bolt to go through and into the engine. If those cars you see don't have this bolt, it's probably because it was either missing, lost or was never put on.
just for future reference, if you ever need to know the size and thread pitch of a bolt, home depot and lowes have bolt holes that allow you to screw in your bolt to see what the exact size it is. this probably wouldn't work for a scenario like this though because you don't physically have the bolt. just figured i'd throw it out there since it's helped me before.
