Default idle drop. close to stalling. help...

Yes I know I no longer have my S, but I had this problem when it was mine and it is still a problem for the friend who bought it from me. The car will drop rpms as usual(normally) while coming to a stop most of the time. Sometimes it drops a bit low and the engine will rumble as if it wants to stall, but it will pick up again and idle fine right after. This only happens sometimes when starting the car, or when coming to a stop. Any ideas to the problem?

had this on my 03. pretty sure it was related to the map sensor. i know some have done the good ol' map whack, but actually, disconnecting and reconnecting it might fix it. a good throttle body cleaning wouldnt be a bad idea either. all i did was replace the map sensor, to the updated one with the zip tie.

Car here last night had it.

Did a valve adjustment, and put dielectric silicone on the MAP connector.

The car was not here for that specifically, but the dropping idle went away completey.

Interesting... Mine will do the same thing almost everytime I come to a stop or start it up... Just shudders and loses idle for a sec and then regains idle...

Interesting, I'm gonna try that. Not the whack itself, but the silicone dielectric grease. Mine dosen't stumble when it's warm, but it still does occasionally in the first 10 min or so of driving.

I thought MAP sensor was only associated with stumble during hard acceleration? I thought the idle stumble was almost always the ECU freaking out after a reset or due to ambient conditions? I'm gonna try the grease. Thanks Billman250.

To the OP: Has your ECU been reset recently, or battery disconnected? When did it start stumbling?

EDIT: Shoot I'm gonna have to score another $6.00 zip-tie.
