Default I'm getting a new tranny

After my dealer having the car for 15 days to do the seat best recall, clutch TSB and the 2nd gear grind TSB a while back...which resulted in no second gear and loosing reverse...the car went back in the shop. I told them the thing that would make me happy was a new transmission. Just got a call today - they are ordering a new transmission for the car. I asked if they drove it (which in the condition it was in, was an art in itself!) they said they didn't have to. (or maybe they couldn't - it was getting worse fast)

It's definitely the tranny...they 'fixed' it a couple of weeks ago, while doing the TSB related to the 1-2 grind. It was not right when I picked it up, they 'ordered bearings'...the problems continued to grow until there was no second gear, and the only way to return to first from third or any other, was at a dead stop. Reverse was going.... At that point they said to bring the car back... (Thank you very much!)

Now...if they can just get this new one back into the car correctly and not cause other problems, I'll be happy.

John - Sorry to hear of your transmission woes. I live near to you and will be taking my car into the dealer for the 2nd gear grind issue (and the seatbelt recall). Could you let me know the dealer that is servicing your car?

Hope to see you down the road.

Wow, a new transmission is pretty nice. I know that your time isn't free but maybe having to take it back to the dealer was a good thing.

I had the same problems, and they replaced my tranny too...
I did lose reverse though before I noticed something really wrong... It really was embarrassing to have to roll it out of my friend's driveway...

Been busy for a couple of days...

My dealer was Friendly Honda in N. Miami Beach, which is now Honda of North Miami Beach. Back when I purchased the car (Oct. '99) the dealers in Fort Lauderdale didn't have any cars except red and were asking well over sticker...so I went 'south'. Both times the car has been in, they've given me a rental to drive, and I do not have the extended warranty.

I've heard nothing but good things about Coral Springs Honda from others, but I figured I'd be better off staying with the dealer where I bought the car. Will let you know. They still have the car waiting for the transmission.

When I first took the car in, it was only the second time they had ever removed a transmission from an S2000... and they said it was a real bear to get one out. By now they've had more practice and should be getting better at it.

my dealer is giving me a load of crap about the TSBs, I tried to have them done and they said they wouldn't unless the grind was "really bad and on every single shift" mine does it intermitantly, and the clutch rattle is intermitant too, but they said the same thing about that too.
How bad was yours befre they fixed it?

My 'grind' had done it intermitantly almost since new. It certainly was not an "every shift" type of thing. I just decided that since the car was almost 18 months old...it would be a good thing to have done. The clutch rattle was very frequent. At first my dealer claimed to know nothing about the TSBs...so I volunteered to take them copies - they seemed to find them at that point.

If I were you, I'd find another dealer or call your zone rep. What may be happening is that they have never done one of these, and don't really want to get into it. I feel like the guinea pig for my dealer...obviously whoever took my tranny apart, sure screwed it up, but I'm happy to be getting a new one.

What part of the country are you in?

Good luck.
