Default Incorrect Gas Indicator

I went to fill up my tank today and noticed that the gas indicator did not fill up all the way. It was a couple bars short but then again maybe I didn't put the gas nozzle far enough for it to fill up the entire tank? Anyone encounter similar problems? It has happened one other time before but most of the time when I fill up the tank, the indicator is correct.

I filled up the tank when there were no bars left on the indicator, then when I filled up, I only filled up 10g.

Did you leave the key on in the ignition with the engine not running while filling up? When I do that I get the same symtoms. When i fill up with the key in the off position I never have that issue.
