Default Inner or outter tie rod

How do i know which one went bad, I know there is play when i have the car lifted up and have the wheel turned to either 9 or 3 oclock while i shake it. Should i change both just to be safe or just the one that is bad. i know one is harder to do than the other and where should i buy the tie rods. Is this something i should buy oem or any substitutes just as good? thanks hope to heard some answers.

yes, but verify first. I'm sure both are not bad unless it was in an accident.

Nothing to really go bad on the inner it is just threaded rod but the outer has the ball joint in it and that could be bad. Have you varified that it is not the wheel bearing?
