I changed the plugs on my recently acquired 02 s2k with 53k miles. Took the opportunity to pull the valve cover and, thanks to the pictures Billman provided, thoroughy inspect the spring retainers. It was easy, the whole procedure including plugs took an hour. A small mirror on a stem is needed and a penlight. Everything looked perfect and I will sleep better knowing. Considering how rough the engine was running before the new plugs and how silky it is running now, I plan to change the plugs more often than recommended and inspect the retainers each time I do it as part of the routine.
