Installing 4.77 gears problem
I just got my rein diff/4.77 gears installed but its making a really loud "bearing noise" when driving. Has anyone had this problem or found a solution? We replaced the bearing twice alrdy, but still same loud noise.

In any case, it's not likely that the noise you hear is a bearing issue. It's most likely that the gear calibration was not done correctly. Usually such noises are from bad ring and pinion teeth alignment.
Nevermind, I just figured out "rein" means "reinforced".

What exactly should the backlash and pinion preloads be set at? He has them set to stock specs, will that be sufficient for 4.77 gears? He has taken apart the rearend probably 8+ times, will this create an issue with any bearings or other pieces in wearing them out or damaging them by rebuilding the rearend so many times?
Also, his last attempt almost worked. He put it together and drove it about 10 miles and all worked fine, but the noise suddenly came back after making a right turn. It wasnt the first right turn or anything, just wanted to let u know what he was doing when the noise reoccured. Does this make any sense? i could just drive in a counterclockwise circle for the rest of my life . But seriously any new ideas? we just ordered all new bearings after noticeing that one of the bearings had scorch marks on them.

I don't haver the stock specs in front of me at the moment, but the 4.77 gear will use the same specs. Rick's 4.57 is the only gear that uses different specs.
You cannot reuse the pinion crush sleeve. Any time the pinion nut is removed, the sleeve needs to be replaced.
Burn marks on the diff carrier bearings means the backlash was way off.
If the noise showed up after a right hand turn, I'd guess the carrier bearing adjuster wasn't locked in and backed off.
Has your installer ever done a rear gear before?
Is he using a inch pound torque wrench to set the pinion bearing preload? How about gear marking compound to check the gear pattern?

He has replaced the crush sleeve, but only once that i know of. he has reassembled the rear end many times, should he replace it each time? He said he was useing stock specs on back lash and preload. He is useing an inch pound torque wrench, and a marking compound(i think compression grease, something like that) to check the alignment. He says the gear alignment is dead on. He has also done this install many times on other cars of course, but its a first on the S. He rebuilt my transmission with no problem and it works great, just the rearend is cursed... Ill relay this info to him and thx for the help.
