Default Intake/ air filter question

I have the stock air intake system in MY04 with a drop in K/N filter, just curious but does anyone not use the top cover of the intake system? will taking it off do anything? i know it wont give me any increase in hp at all but i was just curious if people ran the intake system with a drop in air filter but with out the covers.

Thanks

John

you will lose power if you take the top cover off...... it's there for a reason to keep cool air in the box so the filter sucks up the cool air not the warm air.....

You will lose about 1hp for every 3 degrees rise in air temp. However, with the lid off, it'll sound like you have a real hot car, so you'll instinctively feel there is a gain.

Hi,
looking for instructions,on how to modify (gutt) the stock air box;I checked the Library, and technical, didn't find anyhing, but I'm pretty sure X-viper wrote something on this a while back.

Where can I find it?

Will this mod.improve airflow enough,so I can feel it?I have a JR filter, and AUT cooling plate.

What effect will it have on the sound?Louder?
Thank's.

If there is such a thread, it wasn't authored by me. I may have posted a comment in someone else's thread where they gutted the OEM airbox. It may have had something to do with removing that elbow tube that's stuck on the underside of the lid to make it more effective. Sorry, that's about all I can tell you.

you asked about how to modify the stock air box.. and i just told you.....

there's a middle divider thingie inside the air box.. you can cut it out... there's also a little tube connected to the box cover that goes from the entrace in the front and goes to where the hole is on the divider to give the filter direct air.. you can also cut that out if you wish...... but modifying the stock airbox isn't going to do anything.... and you'll actually probably lose power...
