Default interesting valve adjustment..

So I have 38k on 01 s2000 so I did a valve adjustment intake to .08" and exhaust to .10". 200 miles later I was getting noisy valves and dyno'ed 5hp less. So I popped open the valve cover again and intake valves were at .12" and exhaust were at .11". I torq'd everything to 14lbs. Has anyone had this problem or know what happened? thanks guys

threw adjuster screw probably moved when you torqued the bolt...

did you use the valve adjustment tool?

my guess is in the VA job.

Valve adjustments don't move, unless the cams wear, or the valve face wears.

Valves rarely make noise as well, unless the clearance is way out (yours are not, 12 is not good but not big enough to make noise)

Mine have not moved in 75k miles, as well as countless customers.

Everytime I do a valve adjustment I try to let the car sit overnight and not even start it. That way the engine is cold. I have seen many people let the car sit for 1-2 hours after driving it and do valve adjustments. This might not be a problem, but if the engine is not cold those clearances will change in a heartbeat ... thats why exhaust valves have higher gaps as they heat up more and need more room for expansion.

Do you think the car was cold when you first checked/adjusted them?

BTW. I have never done an adjustment or for that matter cracked the valvecover open on the S2000, but done many on motorcycles and other cars.

i think honda called for a warm motor(not hot, i think aroudn 100) for the adjustment.

just from experience, the s2k valve lash clearance runs a tad tighter than other honda, the first time i did it on mine was too loose. A quick drive around the block pretty much convince me to do it again

iam,

Actually the manual says to inspect the valve clearance when the motor is "Cold".

Then it goes on to say: "Adjust the valves when the cylinder head temperature is LESS than 100 deg F (38 deg C)" ...
