Default Interference or Non-Interference Head?

Anybody know if the S2000's engine has an Interference Head? In other words, if the timing belt snaps, will the valves crash into the pistons?

The S2000 uses a timing chain, not a belt. If it does break, the valvetrain will be damaged.

Slows2k is probably right.

With such a high compression motor, I doubt it would be a non interference setup.

Slows2k IS right - the F20C and F22C are interference engines with timing chains.

Inteference engine: valve will hit piston if timing belt/chain breaks

Non interfence engine: valve has enough room not to hit piston even if timing belt breaks

Hard to have high compression with non interference engine

Thanks for the replies. I just got my shop manual from Helm today. Yes, timing CHAIN, AWESOME! It covers 2000-2006. Cost $75 from here: http://www.helminc.com/helm/Result.asp?Sty...AMTE5HPUXJ40PN4

Just to let you know, it is a massive undertaking to replace the timing chain.

But....there is no need to replace it. It is auto tensioned and will last easily over 150,000 miles, if not forever.

It is what will cost you lots of money if you mis-shift.
