Default Intermittent KeyFob operation

I have an '01 car that is now giving me a problem with the key-fob operations. Sometimes the car unlocks or opens the trunk just fine. Other times it takes several keypresses, or doesn't seem to work at all. It is not a battery problem in the transmitter. It is not a distance problem. I have never had problems starting the car with the key transmission. The car always opens if I insert the key and mechanically unlock it. I do not have a battery problem. The interior lights and other cabin operations do not have any problems.

I have read on this forum about the possibility of a bad remote entry module located somewhere behind the starter switch.

Does that sound like a reasonable explanation?

That appears to be a reasonable explanation, however you should try a second key fob before digging into the remote entry module. If you don't have a second key fob, now would be a good time to get one.

If a second key fob also has the same problem, then you will have totally ruled out the key fob and you'll have a spare.

I've had the same problems, but always only with the Honda USA Alarm unit. Any chance you've got one of those?

No Honda alarm. And I found what I thought was a second key fob, but in retrospect it was probably for my late wife's 2000 CR-V. I'll see if the dealer can program it, anyway...
